Can you believe it is almost April of 2010? Memorial Day is less than two months away! Our most recent newsletter featured some other spring projects, such as pool coping and surrounds done in natural stone. It is really time to begin thinking about those outdoor remodeling projects, including finally building that outdoor grilling area.
Close your eyes and imagine the following…
It’s a warm summer evening, around 8PM. The waves of Long Island Sound have all but disappeared, leaving the water appearing as a dark greenish-blue sheet of glass. Aside from the occasional growling sound of a motorcycle driving by on a nearby street bordering the public beach, all is quiet. You can barely hear the five second intervals of the ocean, lapping the beach. The sky to the north has turned a darker sky blue. But when you glance your eyes to the south, the sky slowly turns a muted fluorescent orange just above the horizon. You can just make-out the raised hills of Long Island, the two towers of Port Jefferson being the most prominent objects.
You’ve now turned your attention to cooking a late meal. In front of you is your large, brand-new stainless steel grill, complete with side burners and a warming oven. You have ample space around you, as you opted to have a full countertop work area built to compliment the grill. You have space to layout all the steak, succulent shrimp, and other grilling favorites. You look up into the sky and see several jets making their way over to Europe. Boy you’re glad you decided to skip that business trip to London! You sit back and relax, now enjoying the smells of sizzling, roasting steak. The shrimp are almost ready to eat. The meat needs a few more minutes. It’s nearly dark. As you take the meat off the grill and get ready to move over to your outdoor eating area, you drain your glass of wine.
Never once did you need to venture indoors. You had plenty of counter space, drawers full of the requisite cooking tools, a sink for your needs, and a chair to relax in. You were able to enjoy that peaceful, tranquil thirty minutes uninterrupted, and undisturbed.
